“Strong Defense Starts with a Mouthguard”

We know every soccer player’s smile is worth protecting. Whether it’s practice or game day, a mouthguard is one of the simplest ways to prevent dental injuries on the field.

Mouthguards act like a shield, helping protect against chipped or broken teeth, cut lips, and even jaw injuries. For kids and teens with braces, they’re extra important to keep gums and soft tissues safe during play.

As parents, you want your athlete focused on the ball and not worrying about their smile. A well-fitted mouthguard gives players the confidence to play hard and stay safe.

At Bright Now! Dental & Orthodontics, we can help with custom-fit mouthguards designed for comfort and protection all season long. Let’s keep those winning smiles healthy - on and off the field!

Coach Spotlight

Matias Aristegui

Teams and roles at FKK: 17 Krush Black, 09 Krush ECNL RL, FTD Site Coordinator for Shane Kelly Park, Technical Summer Series Director

How long have you been coaching soccer?
This is my 8th year coaching at the youth level.

Favorite part of coaching:
The most rewarding part of coaching and mentoring youth soccer players is witnessing their personal growth both on and off the field. It is incredible to see them develop skills, confidence, and teamwork, which not only enhance their game but also positively impact their lives.

Coaching philosophy:
I'd say my coaching style revolves around building strong relationships that foster trust between myself and the players. Creating an environment where they feel safe and supported is essential. I emphasize a growth mindset, encouraging them to embrace challenges and learn from their experiences. The goal is to enhance their skills on the field while promoting love for the game, which can lead to long-term success.

Most memorable soccer moment:
My favorite coaching memory comes from working with my 09s, whom I coached at U9 days and now I am coaching them again at U17. Watching their growth has been truly amazing! It is inspiring to see how their skills have developed, but even more rewarding is witnessing their love for the game continue to grow, and who they are becoming as individuals. I am so proud of how far they've come.

Advice for young players:
One piece of advice is to enjoy the process. Embrace the journey of improvement by committing to continuous learning and hard-work, all while having fun. This mindset will develop good habits in life, such as discipline, resilience, and teamwork. When you find joy in the process, you will not only become a better player but also grow as an individual.

Fun facts about you:
My favorite hobby is playing soccer, enjoying bike rides with my family, and seeing the excitement from my kids at Disney. When it comes to soccer, I am a huge fan of the Argentina national team - and SHOCKINGLY, Messi is my GOAT!

Why you love being part of FKK:
I love being part of FKK because it is a welcoming community that truly values growth, teamwork, and passion. The club provides an amazing environment where players can develop their skills while having fun and building friendships.

One word that describes your team(s):
17 Krush Black - DETERMINED

INDOOR SOCCER SESSION: Creating a Routine and Setting Goals

Training is cancelled again due to rain, lightening or wet fields.  What should you do now? Here are some helpful sessions to make the best of your time during these rainouts.

........................

Objectives

  1. Enhance ball control and technique
  2. Increase creativity
  3. Improve passing and movement
  4. Develop agility and speed
  5. Physical conditioning
  6. Skill focus

........................

Measurable Goals

  • Individual skills
  • Achieve a certain number of juggles
  • Improve dribbling techniques while modifying speeds
  • Increase the number of successful passes towards a target
  • Enhance the one touch technique to create space
  • Psychological growth
  • Mindset to continue pushing

Juggling Mastery
(10 minutes)

1) Juggling is a fundamental skill that enhances your touch and ball control. Challenge yourself using various parts of your body. Challenge yourself as you progress. Everything you do has to be done with both dominant and non-dominant feet. Always keep track of your highest score and try surpassing it every time.

  • Sole juggling (right/left foot)
  • Thigh juggling
  • Around the world
  • Wall juggling

Equipment:  Soccer ball

....................  WATER BREAK

Strength, Conditioning, Speed, and Agility
(8-10 minutes)

1) Crunches will improve your abdominal muscles. 40-50 per session

2) Push-ups primarily improve your upper body muscles. 30-35 per sessions

3) Planks will strengthen your core muscles. Intervals of 30 seconds (3 sets with short rest in between.

4) Ladder work will improve your speed, coordination, and agility. If you do not have an agility ladder - you can set up cones, tape, or a rope.

Equipment: Towel or mat to place on the ground. Ladder, cones, or tape.

....................  WATER BREAK

Dribbling Mastery
(10-12 minutes)

1) Cone dribbling: Set up a series of cones and practice dribbling in between cones as quickly and precisely as possible. This will enhance your agility and ball control, helping you with tighter spaces on the field during training and game day. Keep the ball close to your feet and use different surfaces of the feet to get in between the cones. Challenge yourself with faster pace and better ball control. Everything you do has to be done with both dominant and non-dominant feet.

2) Closed space dribbling: Find a small area and set boundaries or place cones around the small area. Begin dribbling in, out, and around the cones without touching or hitting the boundaries/cones. Always keep your head up and continue to challenge yourself. This will help improve your ability in confined spaces, simulating real game situations where space is limited.

Equipment: Soccer ball / Boundaries: Cones, chairs, any stationary object.

Variations: Step over, inside cuts, outside cuts, scissors, cruyff, pull-back, etc.

Dribble:

  • Keep the ball close to the feet
  • Head-up
  • Change of speed
  • Change of direction

....................  WATER BREAK

Passing Mastery
(10-12 minutes)

1) Wall passing: Focus on passing the ball against a wall and receiving it back. Make sure to adjust power, accuracy and force when passing the ball to work on receiving the ball and different speeds. It is very important to use different surfaces of your foot (dominant and non-dominant) and vary the angle of your passes. Work on your first touch as this is a huge component on the game and the decision making that comes after. Increase your passing speed gradually.

2) Target passing: Set up some type of target or cones, tape can work as well, and practice passing the ball to the targets. This can help with effective passing as precision and control is a big part of it. As you progress with this part of your session, make the targets smaller or farther away to challenge yourself.

*Introduce pug goals (if available). This can make this part of the session more fun as you can do one touch vs two touch shots into the goal.

Equipment: Soccer ball, Cones, tape, targets, Pug goals (if available)
